Figurative Man A is the companion piece to Figurative Woman A, and where the woman reclines in repose, the seated man lunges forward with coiled, muscular energy. Created with the same technique — black enamel paint dripped and flung from a standing position onto acid-free paper — this figure feels caught mid-exertion, a body in the full force of motion.

The head, rendered in dense spiraling loops of dripped enamel, anchors the composition with a raw, almost primal presence. Below, the torso and limbs dissolve into a tangle of gestural marks — pooling, splattering, and radiating outward — as if the figure itself is generating the energy that surrounds him. The warm ivory ground breathes between the marks, giving the composition air and tension in equal measure.

Like its companion, this work carries the living record of the artist's own physical engagement — each drip and splatter a trace of movement, a moment of creative flight captured in permanent form.

For the discerning collector, Figurative Man A and Figurative Woman A are a natural pairing — two works that together make a powerful statement about the body, energy, and the expressive potential of pure gestural mark-making. Through this body of work, Jessica discovered that drips and splashes can be guided and shaped, that what appears spontaneous is in fact a dialogue between intention and chance — and that mastery lives in knowing the difference.
